Wednesday 5 June 2024
Immediately following the show's official opening, the Rescue Robotics Days will kick off at 11:00 hrs with a world first presented by Dirk Aschenbrenner, President of the Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection (vfdb). After that, the future of disaster control will be on the agenda as weather expert Karsten Schwanke from public broadcaster ARD delivers a talk at 11:15 hrs on 'Adventures with Extreme Weather', probing the origins of this
specific weather phenomenon and discussing the dangers to humans and to the environment. In the subsequent panel starting at 11:45 hrs, he will discuss preventive measures in the event of extreme weather and practical operations with Dr Marlene Willkomm (Deputy Head of the Cologne Flood Centre) and a representative from German Maltese Cross in NRW.
The Safety Research Days will follow at 13:00 hrs. There will then be a discussion, chaired by Blue Light Hero podcaster Marcel Kilic, on current developments in robotics in action, new approaches in CRBN situations and intuitive modelling as the basis for analysing extreme data using innovative artificial intelligence techniques. (The talk slots will continue on Thursday and Friday mornings)
Thursday 6 June 2024
From 13:00 to 15:30 hrs, the focus will be on the future of fire service procurement, looking at everything from new vehicles with various energy sources and power delivery designs through to procurement activities undertaken by the Local Government Agency for North Rhine Westphalia.
Friday 7 June 2024
Starting at 12:15 hrs, the Main Stage will be dedicated to the Symposium on Extreme Weather Events including, for example, the low-down on 'Heavy rainfall events, the consequences and how to deal with them' by engineer Hans Becker (Zick-Hessler Ingenieure, a specialist in infrastructure planning). Engineer Arlindo Santos (Head of Knowledge & Innovation at the Agency for Integrated Management of Rural Fires) is a knowledgeable speaker on forest fire fighting and will deliver a presentation on Portugal's forest fire strategy starting at 13:15 hrs. Of equal interest will be the topic 'Crisis communications: how to respond to disasters?' with Juliane Weiß (an expert in crisis management and video training for fire services, e.g. the Association of Fire Brigades in North Rhine Westphalia (VdF NRW) in Wuppertal). A further highlight on the subject of rampages and threats promises to be the talk and panel discussion entitled 'Threat situations – are we prepared? Experiences from the Berlin Christmas market attack (2016) and the Tauentzienstraße rampage' by Dr Rolf-Dieter Erbe (security engineer and paramedic) and Michael Zawada (both from Berlin fire service).
Saturday 8 June 2024
On the final day of the show, the symposium on extreme weather events from 9:00 to 12:00 hrs will once again be dedicated to important topics such as 'Integrating animal rescue with disaster control – operations during flood disasters' with Stephan Witte (founder and manager of Essen Animal Rescue). Equally exciting will be the presentations 'Airborne operations during flood disasters' with Florian Klinner (Head of Safety Management at air rescue service DRF Luftrettung) and 'European assistance – the NRW forest fire module in France' with Christian Schenk (Watch Manager at Ratingen Fire Brigade). Another subject matter area addressed on stage will look at 'Diversity by Netzwerk Vielfalt'. Andreas Kirchharz from the Association of Fire Brigades in North Rhine Westphalia (VdF NRW) will be asking 'Why is diversity important?'.
